Marshall Construction is part way through the 20 Week building programme at the award-winning leisure and entertainment complex ‘The Quay’ in Glasgow. The £1.1m facelift project was competitively tendered for the owners Strathclyde Pension Fund and awarded by Cushman & Wakefield.
The Quay, Springfield Quay opened in 1996 and occupies an enviable position on the River Clyde, with iconic riverside views from several of the leisure scheme’s restaurants and Alea: Scotland’s largest casino. Anchored by a multi-screen ODEON featuring 10 restaurants and eateries, the waterfront location and close proximity to the city centre are just some of the key differentials of this leisure complex from its local competitors.
The extensive upgrade commenced in May 2016 and will see the creation of a new public realm zone, improved wayfaring and a series of measures to increase customer engagement activities that integrate the waterfront location. The project is expected to be completed by October 2016 with businesses operating as normal during this time.
Strathclyde Pension Fund acquired Springfield Quay in December 2014 and indicated their intention to invest in the leisure park to enhance customer experiences.
Douglas Smith, Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Marshall Construction said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious project to carry out improvements to the new public realm zone at Springfield Quay. The scheme will add to our portfolio of high quality works within this sector and strengthen the relationship that we have developed with Cushman & Wakefield and Strathclyde Pension Fund.”
Andrew Tipper, Director of Project Management and Building Services at Cushman & Wakefield added: ‘’ The project has been progressing well to date and we are excited to unveil the newly created zones and improved facilities which are sure to impress The Quay’s customers. The aim of the project is to establish The Quay as the destination of choice within the region and the recent accolade awarded to the complex of ‘ Best Entertainment Complex in Scotland in 2016’ reassures us that we are continually moving in the right direction to meet customer expectations.’’
