This is a seven-storey block of flats providing 66no Houses for social rent forming part of an overall development to provide a total of 160 houses of mixed tenure including for sale, private rent, and affordable rent.
The building was a new build construction using a Metsec System which was a lightweight metal frame structure with cast in situ concrete floors and metal staircases.
This structure was chosen for the speed of erection and for its dimensional stability. This was one block divided into two stairwells each containing 33no flats.
The flats were a mixture of 1& 2 Bedrooms and were serviced by stair cores and lifts.
The building was clad in facing brick and was sympathetic to the adjacent remaining foundry chimney with different colour banding at each level and over the heads of the windows.
The roof was a flat roof finished in single ply membrane and was accessed from the stair cores with a man safe system on the roof for use when maintaining the roof.
Internally the flats were designed to Kingdom Housing standards and specification including kitchens and bathrooms.
The internal doors were prefinished doors, and the walls were plasterboard for a paint finish.
The flats were heated directly from Dunfermline’s District Heating System.
The eternal works formed part of the overall development which included a large SUDs tank under the road and carparking.
